Latest News...
The latest release, 'Nymph Suite & Other Stories', marks the advent of the Lee Westwood Ensemble, performing works from solo to quintet pieces. With varying lineups of Guitar (Lee Westood), Flute (Philippe Barnes), Violin (Ben Sarfas), Cello (Rachel Firmager) and Double Bass (Jonathan Moss), the album provides a platform for an expansion on the solo guitar experience of the 2006 debut album 'To Sleep'. There is, in fact, even a track without guitar.
Recorded live in the Crypt of Lancing Chapel earlier this year, the album is divided into three suites. The first and title collection, the 'Nymph Suite', which is comprised of three pieces for flute and guitar, is also accompanied by artwork from Nom Kinnearking and poetry by Goon. The second, 'Tales Of Hungary', is formed of two embelishments of traditional Hungarian folk melodies and an original trio for Guitar, Flute and Cello, whilst the third, 'Other Stories' encapsulates everything from solo to ensemble works of varying flavours and styles.
Lee recently completed the transcription of the new Philippe Barnes and Tom Phelan album. Comprised of 8 medleys for flute and piano, 'The Madrid Sessions' is available on Hobgoblin Records. The compositions, a contemporary angle on folk and jazz, are largely original, interspersed with traditional Irish tunes. See www.philippebarnes.com for music samples.
Below - images of the new Osborne Guitar, finished in September 2007. The 'Dragonfly' is a new model of Richard's, designed specifically to cope with drop tunings such as DADGAD, and busier styles of playing. Find out more about Osborne Guitars at www.osborneguitars.co.uk
